An Australian writer seeks to learn about the life of her Ukrainian father and the faraway place he called home. Born in 1916, he lived through the upheavals of collectivization and found himself amongst the Enemies of the People deported from the villages in 1930. How he survived in Stalin's totalitarian regime, and how he came to settle in Australia, is the story she tells.
